Santa Clara, Cuba: Accommodation

Santa Clara offers plentiful accommodation options in the form of casas particulares. Among the top ones are the following:

Hostal Familia Sarmiento – a centrally located, four roomed house, offers some of the best food. The host family does not live at the property, but across the road, where three more rooms are available. Hostess Geydis will be your fantastic cook, while host Carlos is a driver and photographer, with a vast knowledge of Cuba.

Hostal Florida Center – one of Cuba’s best casas, is a gorgeous 1876 colonial house, greatly decorated with antiques and a wonderful garden with rare orchids, ferns, birds and a tortoise. The property offers two very nice rooms for rent and charismatic owner, Ángel speaks English, French and Italian. The place is found on Nicolasa Este No 56.

Hostal Florida Terrace – served up by the owner of Restaurant Florida Center, is located across the street from the restaurant. Florida Terrace is well decorated, in colonial style, similar to Florida Center Restaurant, and has four floors, with several rooms. The casa also has a bar upstairs with a great viewpoint of Santa Clara.

Casa de Mercy – located on Calle E Machado 4, between Cuba and Colón, two bright rooms, a terrace, good food, a cocktail menu, and a book exchange. The friendly owners, Mercedes and Omelio speak English, French and Italian.

Casa Héctor Martínez – a quiet haven just off Parque Vidal Héctor Martínez, features two huge rooms and a fern-and-flower-filled patio. The rooms have two beds (one double) and a writing/domino table, while the small garden has a hammock.

Hostal Auténtica Pérgola – situated on Luis Estévez 61 between Independencia and Martí, is a restored colonial house with lovely mosaic floors, a fountain in the plant-filled interior garden and a nice roof terrace restaurant. The property offers several large rooms.

Apart from these, and many other casas, Santa Clara also has a couple of hotels worth mentioning. Hotel América, opened in 2012, features an easy-going restaurant and outdoor swimming pool, while Hotel Santa Clara Libre is a ten floor building with 168 rooms available that has seen its share of battles in 1958 and still bears some of the scars.
