Zagreb is the capital and also the largest city in Croatia. It is located in the southern slopes of the Medvednica mountain along the Sava river. Croatia declared its independence in 1991. Since then Zagreb has been responsible for both political and administrative functions. Zagreb is also seen as the heart of the transport system and it is where Western Europe, the Mediterranean and Southeast Europe meet. According to history books Zagreb was first given mention in 1094, making it a city with a deep-rooted culture.
