Vitória, Brazil: Travel/Tourist Guide

Vitória is the capital city of Espírito Santo in the southeast region of Brazil. The name commemorates Portuguese victory in a great battle, and it was spelled "Victória" until the 1940s. The city has been hailed as one of the best states in Brazil to live in. 

Getting There

The city is served by Eurico de Aguiar Salles Airport, also simply known as Vitória Airport, located on Camburi beach. It has international flights to and from Miami, USA. Travelers can also take a long-distance bus from major Brazilian cities such as Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Belo Horizonte, Brasília and São Paulo. The terminal is located in the downtown area. Similarly, the train station in Cariacica city has trips from Belo Horizonte in Minas Gerais state.

Climate and Geography

It has a tropical climate with a rainy season between October and January. It is one of the hottest cities in the state caused by pollution, urban development and surrounding mountains. The city is located along the coastline and is surrounded by the Bay of Vitória. Most of the landscape is comprised of beaches, granite formations and hills.


For outdoor activities, visitors should check out Praia do Canto, which is a beach neighborhood with an open-air commercial center and vendors selling local food. Praça do Papa near Vitória Bay has a great view of Vila Velha and the Convento da Penho. There are also city parks in almost every neighborhood.

Other cultural points of interest include the Catedral Metropolitana in downtown, Capela de Santa Luzia, Museu Solar Monjardim, and the Federal University of Espirito Santo.
