Vang Vieng is a beautiful town on the bank of the Nam Song River. For years, this town is a popular party destination for many tourists, as well as a great destination for the travelers that like outdoor activities such as mountain biking, kayaking, swimming and many more. Even though Vang Vieng is a really small town with only three streets, it is the great scenery and the surroundings that make it such a popular destination.

There are just a small number of ways to get in Vang Vieng. All of the options are by road. The town is located on Highway 13 between Luang Prabang and Vientiane. The trip from Vientiane takes 3-4 hours, while the trip from Luang Prabang takes 6-8 hours. The road is in a good condition and it offers great scenery. One way to get in the city by road is by taking the bus. There are VIP buses that leave both from Vientiane and from Luang Prabang. There are also minivans and kips that leave throughout the whole day. From Vientiane, you can also get in the Express bus or at some of the slower local buses. Another way to get in the city is by taxi. The taxis trip from the Vientiane airport to Vang Vieng lasts about 4 hours. The last option that you have is by a rental car. The AVIS rental car business can arrange airport pickup for you to take you to the city. Or you can also rent a car on your own and it will cost you about $200.

Once you arrive in Vang Vieng you will see that it is a really small town. That means that everything is at a walking distance which makes walking the best way to get around. If you want to go outside of the city you can rent a bike from the hotels or the local businesses. You also have the option to rent a motorcycle. There are a lot of different motorcycles, scooters, and bikes that you can rent and the conditions depend on the venture you will choose to rent from. The last option you have is by a tuk-tuk. There are many tuk-tuks that go around town. You also have the possibility to rent a tuk-tuk for the whole day.

Even though it is a small town there are a lot of attractions in Vang Vieng and its surroundings. The best ones are the outdoor ones created by nature. You should definitely visit Tham Poukham - Blue Lagoon. This is an amazing lagoon at the bottom of the Golden Cave with crystal clear blue water. The lagoon is small so it is often filled with people. From the lagoon, you can go up to the Golden Cave where you can see the Sleeping Golden Buddha and admire the glimmering stalactites. There are four other amazing caves in Vang Vieng that definitely deserve a visit. First of all there is the Padeng Cave, the Ring Cave, the Xang Cave, and the Tham Chang Cave.
