Getting around Dushanbe, Tajikistan: Travel/Tourist Information Guide
Dushanbe is a large city but easy to get around. There are a number of ways to do that and they are quite easy.
The easiest way to get around Dushanbe is by shared taxi or marshrutka. They both run on standard routes, but make sure that you understand the route and where it is going before hopping on. The marshrutkas can get crowded and stop at more places. The ticket costs 1 somoni or 2 if it's a longer route. Shared taxis cost 3 somoni. Decide which one you will take depending on where you are going and how fast do you need to get there.
You need to learn some useful phrases that you help you get your ideas across to the driver and to the locals. Some useful phrases are as follows:
'haminjo da maan konet' - stop here
'yagonjo maan konet' - stop somewhere near here
svetafor' - stoplight (so, 'svetafor da maan konet' will let you off before an intersection)
