Fez: Travel/Tourist Information Guide

Known as "Mecca of the West" and the "Athens of Africa", Fez is one of the major cities in Morocco. The city is divided in to three sections: the Fes-Jdid, the Fes El Bali and the Ville Nouvelle. The Fes El Bali are walled in city, with many narrow streets forming a web inside of it. It has a significant place in the history of Morocco. Fes el Bali is considered as one of the car-free urban area globally. Fes el Bali is also listed as listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the oldest university in the world, University of Al-Karaouine.

Fez is one of the well know cities in Morocco after Casablanca and Rabat. It is one of the four majestic cities in the country along with Rabat, Marrakech and Meknes. Taste the traditional Moroccan cuisine including the mouthwatering dish named Tagine which is made from vegetables, fruits and meat. Small food stalls are available everywhere offering a wide variety of Moroccan dishes. Fez is an excellent place for shopping. Visitors have the opportunity to shop Morocco’s special handcrafted leathers, Berber rugs, silver products, and pottery products.

Fez experience a climate which varies from cool to hot in winter and summer correspondingly from the months of July through September.
