Monterrey, Mexico: Accommodation
Monterrey offers all kinds of accommodations, from cheap hostels, mid-ranged bed and breakfast options, to luxurious hotels. Most of these are scattered throughout two of the city’s neighborhoods: Zona Rosa and Barrio Antiguo.
Owned by an artistic crew, the Yeccan Hostel in Barrio Antiguo, is a stylish cheap place with a contemporary look. It offers simple but clean and inviting dorms and private rooms while having a common area with TV and sofas, a patio, pool room and guests' kitchen. Prices per night start at around 14$. Other cheap lodging options in the city include Recamara Arista homestay, Soy Foraneo Hostel and the clean but hot (no air-conditioning) La Casa del Barrio Hostel.
Comfort Inn Monterrey Valle is a good mid-range option located 4 miles from the Museum of Contemporary Art. With free Wi-Fi on-site restaurant and swimming pool, the 60$ starting price tag, per night, is very decent. Rooms have safety boxes, coffee makers, cable TV and hairdryers. For a stay near the airport, Best Western Plus Monterrey Aeropuerto Apodaca offers an outdoor pool, hot tub and gym, for about the same prices as the Comfort Inn. The disadvantage is that it’s about 15 minutes drive away from the city, but just 6km from the airport.
For a more intimate stay, Santa Rosa Suites, near Plaza Mexico, feature suites with separate living areas that have sofas, DVD player and dining space for 4. The hotel has a restaurant and a piano bar on the 3rd floor.
The well known Quinta Real hotel chain stays on top in Monterrey as well, offering the best in luxurious accommodation options. Located in the city’s financial district, Quinta Real Monterrey combines modern facilities with colonial style architecture. Some rooms have a balcony with a view of the courtyard, city or mountains. Its restaurant serves Mexican and international foods, while the bar offers live music.
