Central America is the bridge that joins North America from Mexico and South America from Colombia. It is an isthmus surrounded by bodies of water on both sides--the Pacific Ocean to the west, and the Caribbean Sea to the east. Geographically, Central America is a part of the North American continent, but it has a lot more in common with South America than the North, especially in terms of language and cultural heritage. This region is made up of seven mostly tropical countries: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama. Central America is a biodiversity hotspot and is a top destination for ecotourism. The region is also a part of the Central America Volcanic Arc, and has several active geological faults, making the region susceptible to frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

Nature lovers, cultural enthusiasts, adventure seekers, and laid back or budget travelers can all find something they love about Central America. It's the diversity and the accessibility of this region that makes it attractive to many. It is easier and cheaper to travel in Central America than South America. The distances are smaller and costs are generally lower.

Mayan is still spoken in the countryside and the culture is alive and well. Guatemela City has some beautiful colonial architecture. Around the countryside is the ancient town of Tikal.

Honduras

Nicaragua

Known for Lake Managua, Nicaragua is often overshadowed by its famous neighbors. Nicaragua is home to 25 volcanoes, neatly lined up together near the coast. The favorite sport in the country is baseball not football as is common in the rest Central America.
