Florianópolis, Brazil: Travel/Tourist Guide
Florianópolis is the capital city of the state of Santa Catarina in the south region of Brazil. It is comprised of a peninsular part on the mainland, an island called Ilha de Santa Catarina and its surrounding islands.
The city is served by the Hercílio Luz International Airport on Avenida Diomício Freitas. There are international flights from the US, Spain, UK, Germany, Italy and other South American cities like Buenos Aires, Santiago and Montevideo. The Terminal Rita Maria on Avenida Paulo Fontes is the central bus station with trips from other Brazilian cities.
Climate and Geography
It has a warm humid subtropical climate. It is located near the ocean, which results in high humidity. The vegetation in the city is diverse and characteristic of Atlantic forests. Different landscapes can be found here such as mountain forests, coastal plains and grasslands.
There are countless beaches all over Florianópolis with the most popular ones being Praia Brava, Praia Mole, Pântana do Sul and Matadeiro. Praia da Galheta is a nudist beach.
Activities to enjoy in the city include windsurfing at Lagoa da Conceiçâo, scuba diving at Praia dos Ingleses, trekking at Costa da Lagoa and sandboarding at Joaquina. There are also good shopping spots like Shopping Itaguaçu on Rua Geroncion Thives, Shopping Beiramar on Rua Bocaiúva and Iguatemi Floranópolis on Avenida Beiramar.
