Melbourne, Victoria, is the second largest city in Australia and a super holiday destination and is located on the bay of Port Phillip. It was founded in 1835 and named Melbourne though it is thought to have been occupied for about 30 000 - 40 000 years prior. However, between the 1830s and 1840s Victorian Aboriginal groups were greatly dispossessed of their lands. In 1851 Melbourne experienced a gold rush and the city's inhabitants exploded. It was due to this land boom that it underwent great economical development.
In this day and age Melbourne is home to about 4.5 million people and major city upgrades have taken place.With an oceanic climate Melbourne is a popular tourist destination. Tourists can enjoy it's reasonably priced accommodation and easily accessible transport routes. More great attractions include its indigenous flora and fauna, fun excursions, exhibits, beaches and happening nightlife. Overall Melbourne is an incredible city rich in history with sites to see and places to go.
