Banlung is a small town. It is the capital of Ratanakiri Province, which is located at the northeaster part of the country bordering Vietnam to the east and Laos to the north. The town is muddy during wet season and dusty during dry season. The best time to visit Banlung is every November. It is rich in agriculture and eco-tourism destinations. Housing the Yeak Lom Crater Lake and the Virachey National Park, the town is known for its volcanic lakes, waterfalls, and national parks.Adding to its remote feel are the 12 minority ethnic groups residing in this small town. Although not modernized unlike the capital city of Phnom Penh, Banlung is filled with natural attractions. There is practically zero nightlife in Banlung. A few karaoke bars, pubs, and, that’s about it. Perhaps, just enjoying gazing at the stars at night is a relaxing way to spend the night in this small town. A few days in Banlung would be a great choice as it offers a comprehensive range of accommodation, including guesthouses, some of which are set in a jungle-like style, and cheap and luxury hotels and resorts. Tours and excursions can also be organized from these hotels, especially day trips to the places at the outskirts of Banlung.
